Defining Drought
In July, the city of Richmond issued its first voluntary water conservation advisory since 2002 because of below-normal flows in the James River. Nearby counties, including Henrico, joined in a show of region-wide collaboration.
As of a September 22 report by the VA Drought Monitoring Task Force, 37.17% of the state remains in drought conditions that have been present since last year, with Henrico and our surrounding counties under drought watch advisories.

Exploring the Totally Totable Program:

This program is designed to enhance environmental science and natural resource conservation education for students and community groups within Henrico County.

Totally Totables are self-contained educational kits that provide hands-on learning experiences about various environmental topics.
Students Compete to Win Envirothon
The Virginia Dominion Energy Envirothon is an exciting, team-based natural resources competition for high school students. Sponsored by the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (VASWCD) and Dominion Energy, this program offers students a unique opportunity to learn about environmental stewardship and management while solving real-world environmental problems.
For 2025, the Envirothon theme is: "Roots and Resiliency: Fostering Forest Stewardship in a Canopy of Change."
