Henrico Area Water Quality Samplers (HAWQS)

Volunteers are the heart of this important data collection!

HAWQS is our team of citizen volunteers performing a variety of water quality tests that measure the overall health of the county’s waterways. Volunteers are trained to monitor parameters that include temperature, turbidity, nitrate level, and e. coli bacteria.  Supplemental training and projects are offered throughout the year, such as benthic macroinvertebrate monitoring and stream cleanup events in partnership with Keep Henrico Beautiful. The data from the HAWQs program is used to raise public awareness and address pollution concerns.
