Storm Water Pollution Prevention
You might be surprised to learn that most storm drains connect directly to local waterways, including streams, lakes, and rivers. When it rains, water collects remnants of our everyday activities such as litter, motor oil, bacteria from pet waste, excess fertilizers and pesticides, and leaves and grass clippings. This polluted stormwater runs off hard surfaces to storm drains and then directly to local waters. Pollutants in stormwater close fishing grounds, threaten water resources, harm natural areas, and contribute to flooding. Learn more...

Storm drain marking is a visual reminder that storm drains are for stormwater only. Marking involves people in the community, educates residents, and increases awareness about the importance of Harrison County waterways and the environment. Its also a great opportunity to work with friends and neighbors or earn community service hours.

Is your organization or civic group interested in assisting with the marking of storm drains in your town? Contact the Harrison Soil & Water Conservation District at 740-942-8837 for more information.
